Dr. Zakhaleva is board certified in General Surgery from the American Board of General Surgery and a board certified colorectal surgeon. She attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology. Dr. Zakhaleva received her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. She did her General Surgery training in SUNY - Stony Brook Medical Center on Long Island, NY. Dr. Zakhaleva finished both Minimally Invasive Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowships in the Colon and Rectal Clinic of Orlando, FL.
Dr. Zakhaleva specializes in advanced robotic and laparoscopic colon surgery and the evolving field of transanal minimally invasive surgery for sphincter preservation for benign and malignant diseases, such as cancer and IBD. She is interested in anal physiologic testing, endoscopic ultrasound, and treatment of chronic constipation and fecal incontinence. Dr. Zakhaleva is focused on treatment of benign anorectal conditions, such as hemorrhoids, fistulas, and fissures.
Dr. Zakhaleva is involved in teaching medical students attending the Quinnipiac Frank H. Netter Medical School. Her hospital privileges include Yale-Saint Raphael's campus, Griffin Hospital, and Milford Hospital.
